James McAvoy Joins 'X-Men:First Class'

EW.com report: Scottish actor James McAvoy, the star of the movies like Wanted, Atonement , The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, and Attonement has been pairing up with British director Matthew Vaughn (Layer Cake, Kick-Ass) for the next iteration in the X-Men franchise for Twentieth Century Fox. X-Men: First Class centers on the two young men when they first discovered their powers. At first the two are the closest of friends, working together to stop a huge global threat, but Xavier and Lensherr then become enemies, leading to an eternal war between Magneto’s Brotherhood and Professor X’s X-Men.

Wiki  In X-Men: First Class, James McAvoy performs the role of Professor Charles Xavier - The leader and founder of the X-Men and one of Magneto's best friends until conflicts of opinion create a rivalry between them and their teams.

McAvoy pointed out that, he wasn't into comic books when he was a kid. But he did admit that he was a fan of the cartoons and from the age of 10 upwards and the first films as well. He also stated that his favorite character was Gambit.

In comparison to the character that he is playing now when compared to what the older fictional character was like in the other films he said: "For me, Charles Xavier is a monk. He's like a selfless, egoless almost sexless force for the betterment of humanity and mortality. And getting to kind of go, 'Alright, well he's got to be different from that.' It's quite fun because the complete opposite of that is an ego-fuelled, sexed up self-serving dude. And not going too far with it, but he's definitely got an ego and he's definitely got a sex drive as well."
